Document Summary
Muscles of the posterior compartment of the forearm are extensors and supinators. Extensor/supinator muscles of the posterior compartment of the forearm: the posterior compartment has two layer a superficial and deep layer. Superficial extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis, extensor digitorum (extensor digiti minimi is part of this), extensor carpi ulnaris. Deep supinator, abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis longus, extensor indicis, extensor pollicis brevis. All of these muscles are innervated by the radial nerve or branches of the radial nerve. Extensor carpi radialis longus (superficial): it is parallel to the brachioradialis on the lateral forearm. Action extends and abducts hand at the wrist joint (extends in conjunction with ex. carpi ulnaris and abducts in conjunction with flexor carpi radialis). Extensor carpi radialis brevis: lies deep to ex. carpi radialis longus and is shorter than it. Action extends and abducts hand at the wrist joint. Innervation deep branch of radial nerve (c7, c8).
