Psychology 2075 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Orgasm, Vasoconstriction
Document Summary
Masters and johnson: one of first models of physiology of human sexual response. 1966, wrote human sexual response, reported more than 10,000 sexual cycles of arousal and orgasm. 3 stages of sexual response: excitement, orgasm, resolution. Physiological processes: (1) vasocongestion blood flows into vessels in genitals because of vessel dilation; (2) myotonia muscles contract (in genitals or throughout body) Common sex flush on skin of men and women. Erection, corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum fill with blood. Direct stimulation of genitals, other parts of body, or erotic thoughts. Vasocongestion fast (erection in seconds, slower with age, alcohol, fatigue) Close to orgasm, secrete drops of fluid from cowper s gland, may be sperm. Arteries dilate strong flow of blood in, smooth muscle around arteries relax. Veins (blood away) compressed, restrict blood flow. Skin of scrotum thickens, sac tenses, scrotum pulled up and closer to body. Spermatic cords shorten, pulling testes closer to body.
