This class is used to equip us with the tools to research classics and write research papers on such subjects. Classics: the study of ancient greek and roman civilization. Chronology (looking at the past) a historical discipline. There is a geographical scope (a particular part of the world). Specific disciplines, e. g. literature, history, philosophy, archeology, mythology. Major chronological periods: greece: 3000b. c. to 323 onwards. (bronze age c. 3000bce-1200bce, iron age (or dark ages) 1200bce-800bce, archaic period 800-480bce, classical period. Major chronological periods: rome: 900bce-7th century ad. 500bce), roman republic (500-31bce), the principate (31bce-late 3rd century ad), late antiquity (4th-7th ad). Roman empire lasted until the middle of the 15th century ad. But there was a nasty shock in the 7th century, where this class ends. (persian empire). Romanists say they are interested in the constitutional aspects and the republic. I consider myself to be a hellenist, because i am interested in the ancient societies of the greek civilizations.
