The we feeling, what does it include (socially constructed) A nation is a group that wants to have its own state. A group of people who believe they share a common fate, history, culture and language. Nationalisms say that the state and nation should be congruent. Never before in human history did people insist that their leaders be of the same culture and never did leaders try to make the people share their culture. This is a modern phenomenon (no more than 350 years old) It s this need for congruence that needs to be explained. 1921 in poland, 1/3 of the people were not polish. Late 19th century, a good some of people in france did not know how to speak french. High culture and low cultures: european monarchs and population. Industrial society and the need for universalization of high culture (standardized culture) In this way, nations are constructed, they are projects of elites sometimes competing projects.
