Universal human rule: all social groups create their own kinds of rules and enforce these rules. E. g. religious/cultural prohibitions: statistical deviance: 1 outsider that does not fit with the rest. Howard says to look at deviance is to see when things statistically fall out of the norm. y outliers by malcolm gladwell: looking at people who become very successful. Problems: y definition is too broad: when you use statistics, you cast a wide net, so people who are left-handed become deviants, or red-heads etc are deviants.
