Document Summary

Feb 1 projectile motion: the effect of air resistance: air resistance will tend to decrease both the horizontal and vertical components of the projectile velocity. Components of its velocity: the vertical component is affected by gravity and air, the horizontal component is affected by air only. For many problems of projectile motion, the effects of air are negligible and therefore only the effect of gravity can be considered to affect the flight of the body. Resolve velocity vector into horizontal and vertical components. The gravity only acts on the vertical component and has no effect on the horizontal component. Calculate height to top of a trajectory by using the vertical component of the release velocity and putting it into the formula v2^2 = v1^2 + 2as. Determine time in flight by calculating the time to the top of the trajectory and the time to fall back to the ground.
