GGR100H1 Lecture Notes - Evaporation, Advection
Document Summary
Chapter 9 notes (lec 1) y hydrologic cycle: the vast currents of water, water vapour, ice, and energy make up the hydrologic cycle. The processes whereby water passes through plants roots and leaves is called transpiration y this cycle can be analyzed like a budget for a given location (soil-water. Budget): key is measuring precipitation supply input and its distribution to satisfy the demand of plants, evaporation and soil moisture storage. Precipitation income must be balanced against expenditures of evaporation, transpiration and runoff. Soil water budget, helps us budget how much available water we have (what comes in must equal what goes out. ) Interception: is precipitation that strikes vegetation and is intercepted. 2 y groundwater is the largest freshwater source in the world (larger than all lakes). Groundwater begins as surplus water that percolates downward. This excess surface water moves through the zone of aeration where soil and rock are less than saturated.
