Suggestive dance moves in early recordings led to a new kind of popular music for teens rock and roll broke out rapidly. Rock and roll developed out of 3 principle preceding sources: mainstream popular music, rhythm and blues, country and western. Emergence of a national audience (vs regional) Music available through sheet music in stores and gramophone cylinders. Movies and radio broke down regional hold.
