Document Summary

Overseas trade was major component in britain"s economy. The islamic world was more scientific as well and a lot of the science of europe was translated into latin in order for europe to have it. Presented other nations histories as stagnate and their cultures were never changing as a result. Idea was that economic progression couldn"t happen under despotic rule because they wouldn"t actually own any of the things they were making and selling and therefore profit was not their own. Colonial expansion was necessary in order to "break down" the stagnant walls of other cultures. Marx had a cold rationality for the way that history was/is. There are also "softer" versions but they are saying the same thing. Remember that all regions went through economic changes: mostly successes not failures, not necessarily the same scale but it was there, malthusian trap was present in china.
