Document Summary

Intrinsically motivated behaviours occur in absence of external rewards; are taken for interest-sake; they are performed b/c they are fun . Self-determination theory: variables related to the environment/social or contextual factors that either assist or frustrate people in meeting their needs. This theory assumes that need satisfaction can t be taken for granted! We cannot take it for granted that our needs will be met. We need to rely on the environment to provide the necessary resources in order to satisfy our needs. Environments differ in how much choices and innovations/initiations they provide as well as how much the pressure to perform is minimized. A well-structured environment provides clear expectations/guidelines and regular feedback w/ respect to ur behaviour. The ideal environment/context provides autonomy support (has clear choices), a moderate degree of structure (gives regular feedback), and involvement (others are concerned for u/ur welfare/development). Ex. in an educational environment, these 3 contextual factors lead to different experiences.
