A self-correcting process for asking questions and observing nature"s answers: theories: an explanation using an integrated set of principles that organizes observations and predicts behaviors or events. Explains over time, over space, lots of observations: hypotheses: a testable prediction, often implied by a theory. A measure of the extent to which two factors vary together, and thus of how well either factor predicts the other. Intuition: understanding or knowing without conscious recourse to thought, observation or reason: instinct, gut feeling. There is variation within any population of organisms. Certain variations are better than others, thus, increase chances of survival and reproduction. Thus, the next and successive generations will have proportionally more offspring.
