Document Summary
3 parts of language: come in and be deciphered, computational, output, receptive aphasias. Deciphering what is heard is impaired sometimes they can know its their problem, sometimes they don"t: integrative aphasias involves problems in selecting and arranging meaningful units and their eventual conversion into comprehensive speech. Problems w/ integrating the nuts/bolts of language. Wernicke"s aphasia [aka jargon aphasia] they make unintelligible statements. Will chatter for long periods of time w/o making any sense at all. Produce language like speech but it doesn"t make sense. Music aspect of language is intact [all rhythm of speech is intact] Mostly dealing with the families and helping them not the patients they are not aware of the problems. Broca"s > they get really depressed and are aware of their problems. Unable to name objects [sometimes have prob w/ naming people] *the rest of the 4 aphasias relate to the ability to repeat. Repetition > repeat what is said perfectly repeat saying silly things.
