After the war of 1812 the population of upper canada 95,000 people - 10 ys later the population is 157,000 and in 1837 the population was 400,000. Native people becoming marginalized, and relations becoming strained again. Settlement patterns - people begin filling in the land leading out from the lakes. Didn"t settle too far north because of canadian shield = no farm. In toronto, everything north of queen st. is farm. Class, rank and culture - relative wealth classification, not really correct talking about class, it is more like a ranking system.
