The history of the human lineage: part 3. During the permian and early triassic periods world"s fauna dominated by therapsids: a diverse group of reptiles that possessed traits such as being warm-blooded and covered with hair. Linked to the mammals that evolved later. End of triassic period: most therapsid groups disappeared and the dinosaurs dominated, one therapsid lineage evolved and diversified to become the first true mammals. End of mesozoic era: placental and marsupial mammals that bore live young have evolved. Extinction of the dinosaurs at the beginning of the cenozoic era. After them came the radiation of mammals: all modern descendants include: horses, bats, whales, elephants, lions and primates. Believed to have evolved from something like a shrew. Remember: evolution produces adaptation, but what is adaptive in one environment may not be adaptive in another. Continental drift: the movements of the continents. Laurasia: northern half on pangaea once it began to break apart.
