Document Summary
Cardiac output: amount of blood pumped out through the heart per unit time. It is a function of the heart rate and the stroke volume which is the volume of blood pumped per beat: most important function is stopping from blood pressure to drop too low. Keeping it up so blood flow can go to organ that are sensitive o2 can have enough; high bp can kill but it will take a whole; low bp will kill in minutes. Peripheral resistance: the resistance to blood flow within circulation taking place in small vessels and arterioles: therefore blood pressure is measured as a function of cardiac output and. Peripheral resistance: the most important things then are the heart rate, the stroke volume and the peripheral resistance having to do with all types of mechanisms ; all changes occurring in cardiovascular system effect these things.
