Document Summary
Habit reversal procedures are used to decrease the frequency of undesirable habit behaviours and sometimes these behaviours can lead to negative perceptions of the person or decrease the person"s social acceptability. A habit disorder is when habit behaviour occurs frequently or with high intensity to the point where the person may seek treatment for the problem. Joel"s nail biting, jose"s excessive head snapping, barbara"s stuttering. Three types of habit behaviours are nervous habits, motor tics and stuttering. A special class of nervous habits are called body-focuses repetitive behaviour problems and these result in physical damage or negative social evaluations. Motor tics are repetitive jerking movements of a particular muscle group in the body and they involve muscles in the neck or face but may also involve the shoulders, arms, legs or torso, associated with heightened muscle tensions. A vocal tic is a repetitive vocal sound that does not serve a social function.
