Document Summary

Uniformmitarism = what happening in present day shows what happened in the past. Cautrophism = rare events (e. g. ones we haven t experienced big bang, super volcano, meteorite) Vertical tectonics = magma from mantle and erode on earth surface (become igneous rock) Gold in it, in magma (water vapour, sulfur gases, lots of toxic gases = can cause ex- tinctions) Supercontient rises = inflation (interior of supercontient = dry) Supercontinent not very diverse enivormnents or organisms. Only 2 arms grow up and becomes active rifts (3rd one is failed rift) Aulogens = fill up w/ sediments (have lots of iron gases) St. lawerence river and great lakes = on top of failed rifts. Failed rifts associated with shifts = cause earthquakes (intraplate earthquakes) Why we have earthquakes in land (vs only on coast) E. g. active rifts = red sea, gulf of eden, failed rift = east african rift zone (think of as a 3 way pulling)
