Document Summary

Systematic observational research: observation-noting occurrences for science, systematic-follows a certain protocol, systematic try and see; more than one way to observe and measure. Methodological trianglulation: using multiple methods to zero in on phenomena from more than one perspective, more comprehensive measure. Quantitative research: data in a numerical response. Qualitative research: data in a verbal response: both aren"t mutually exclusive. Observer bias: observers being biased in estimation up or down, believe what they see; what they want to see, comparing to field observers may show the biases available, observers may distort what the informants mean. What can be learned from quantifying observations: social network analysis(sna): Advantage: can measure the judge to judge reliability. Can use basic stats to enumerate the data. Bales: the one who had most talking/most opinions. Use of public records to oberve behaviour. Ie actuaries, judiciaries,weather/crime reports, mass media, sales, industrial/institutional records. A secondary observation: ie the info is twice removed from the source: content analysis:
