Document Summary

Majority o society did not know about it, only believed what the priest said (vedam) Between 600 and 200 b. c. e many rules created by priest for social behaviours, rules are either part of religion or something priest has created; not related to rituals, but for daily lives. Most famous of the rules found in laws of manu (sage manu"s rule) Etiquette of each age group (brahmins) articulates duties of each age group on society. New text with new rules would accompany a new term dharma". New age hinduism focus not on rita but on dharma. Both terms refer to principles and rights (both impersonal symbols) Essential difference rita (not fixed principle, it is law of changes), it changes in a homogonous way, how universe changes and how we can find patterns through changes. Dharma is more static, things don"t change, sacred duty" = eternal duty, everyone born with a duty depending on which class and age group you belong to.
