Estimating heritability: to the degree that a trait is heritable, people who are closely related to each other genetically should be more similar in the trait than are people who are less closely related genetically. Identical twins are more genetically related (100%) than fraternal twins (50%: either raised in the same home or adopted at an early age into different homes. Cyril burt: allegedly faked his data, some of his supporters say he was just careless, not deliberately faking data. From figure: 0. 46 for the 12-15 year old, and 0. 86 for adults. Consensus: genetic differences account for about half of the iq variance among children and adolescents (considerably more than half of the iq variance among adults) Fluid and crystallized intelligence are about equally heritable (genes can influence knowledge through their influence on curiosity, reading ability, long- term memory etc. )
