Medel didn"t know about genes, alleles, chromosomes, meosis was making mdels based on observations. Variation in traits due to different alleles. 2 copies of alleles one dominant (determines what the heterozygotes look like) and the other ressesive. Organisms inherit 2 alleles for each trait. So this predicts the result of the cross.
