Zeus is the supreme god and father of gods and men . Theogeny is also an account of how the world began. Theogeny literally means the origin of the gods . Cosmogony literally means the origin of the world . Theogeny was composed toward the end of 8th century b. c by hesoid a greek farmer poet from the region of boetia. Theogeny is possible the oldest surviving example of greek written literature. We know little about the life of hesoid. Hesoid was working as a shepherd when one day the nine olympian muses gave him a laurel staff, and taught him beautiful song . Perhaps the songs the muses taught him is the theogeny.
