Pregnancy: events from time of fertilization (conception) until infant is born. Conceptus: developing of offspring, pre-embryo, embryo, fetus etc. Gestation period: period of development, from last menstrual period until birth, typically 280 days. Pre embryonic period: fertilization occurs, 2 weeks of conceptus, pre embryo dividing / moving to uterine tubes towards uterus and settle in cavity finding home to implant. Embryonic period: point of implantation (6th week, essential / critical for development, create all 3 germ layers (ecto, endo, meso, start organogenesis of all organ systems, area most susceptible to teratogenic. Sperm: vagina, cervix (thin fluid), uterine canal, cavity, horns, tubes, ampulla, sperm must reach ovulated secondary ooctye. Sperm capable of fertilizing egg for 24-72 hours. Collected by fimbria and migrates t ampulla hoping to meet up with sperm. All of these must happen in order for successful fertilization: 2: acrosomal reaction: sperm journey and fertilizing egg. Acrosomal membrane filled with lots of enzyme to dissolve oocyte"s protective barrier.
