Anthropology 2231F/G Lecture Notes - Snaketown, Hohokam, Mesoamerican Chronology
Document Summary
Lecture 21 part 2 hohokam: larger number and size of sites. Maximum site size found: starting to build square platform mounds, retraction of amount of area that they occupied, exodus, unsure why, snaketown. Over 200 rectangular pit houses (500-600 people at least) Already low trade with mesoamerica continues to decline. Classic period: craft objects declines, shift to community compounds instead of single family dwellings, stop making ball courts around 1300, more flat-top mounds, at least 40 sites, 1350 most sites are abandoned. Hohokam disappear around this time as well: very elaborate canal systems for irrigation of crops, probably some form of public work.
