Southern new mexico, south-east arizona and northeastern mexico. Famous for pottery, some of the most elaborate and beautiful that was created (animal figures, fantastical creatures, etc. : casas grandes. Largest pueblo site known in the southwest. Built in the early 1200s ad, major center by 1300 ad. Ball courts: like the hohokam, same i shape as the. Mounds earthen court, covered with flat stones, same as mesoamerica, some have staircases that go up the side, about 4m high. Water control system: used more for drinking and cleaning water, built reservoirs, water flowed into the settlement and individual houses: out-flushing sewer system and ditch. Macaws: large number of macaws (over 300), feathers used in ritual and religious activities; more than another of the other sites combined; raised parrots at this site (eggs, nestlings, etc. Turquoise probably the source of the turquoise of the other sites. Marine shells: 4 million shell artifacts, from salt water (west coast of mexico), 1. 5 tons.
