In schizophrenia you couldn"t do this to get rid of the problem. Jung thought he found a lie detector test. Freud said dream is what you consciously wanted to happen sexually. Jung said we should keep our thoughts/dreams/daydreams to a threatening point and let imagination take over. We normally stop and get back on topic when we realize we shouldn"t continue thinking past a certain point about an inappropriate topic. Freud talked about personal wishes to repress.
