Land of sad oranges is fiction: not subject to the normal procedures of history that involve documentation and references. It is inherently subjective whereas history is more objective. Treating it historically is an issue because the way an author portrays something could be very different from how others (or even the majority) felt at the time. Through the freedom of the fictional form you can develop character and perspective. Most analytical procedures such as trend analysis andratio analysis are based on historical figures from prioraccounting periods. This somewhat assumes that the history is areasonable reflection of what we might expect in the future.However, that is not always the case. Class, can you think of ascenario where our expectations for the future might be vastlydifferent from past performance?
