Freud and personality (chapter 14: covered on final exam) Psychodynamic theory (things that happened in your childhood end up shaping your life now) Freud believed mind was divided into three parts: Ego: conscious and realistic (rational part of self, i might go to jail if you grab a person because you"re horny so you shouldn"t do it) Defence mechanisms (when we get impulses from the brain that are not proper and must to regulated) Freud believed individuals goes through stages of development, grows up and starts to get gratification from touching their genitals. Disorders come from fixations (things that happened in a particular stage at psychosexual development) Anal retentive (child is so scared about pooing wrong and being scared about getting criticised): excessively neat, obsessive, meticulous. Anal expulsive (kid making his parents feeling bad about making him going through things): sarcastic, hostile, untidy.
