Document Summary
A variety of societal concerns have affected the development, assessment and use of a variety of psychological tests. Most of the controversy over the relationship between testing and society has arisen in educational and industrial settings and less on clinical. The decision may be: (1) individual or institutional and (2) comparative or absolute. A distinction must be made between the decisions made by the person who takes the test compared with those made by the institution that administers the test. In individual decisions, tests can be used to counsel or advise the examinee, they usually have some in uence on the actions or decisions of the examine. The debate over the societal consequences of psychological tests has focused for the most part on institutional decisions. These decisions concern admission, advancement of students, personnel selection, placement in training programs and evaluation of job performance.
