Document Summary
Three fundamental insights of psychology: reality is a story, told to us by our brains. Your brain is an artist and creates a representation of the world for you. Our experiences do not reflect reality itself but rather a construction, or representation of reality. We only have access to a limited subset of reality. The limitations of our sensory perceptual system are due to: we cannot t ry to figure out the whole picture while we can only interpret a few pieces of data. Perception is what happens internally based on the limited amount of info at your disposal. Reality will not always agree with our perception. The story of the man in the congo > perception (ants to water buffalo) The constructive world hypothesis > you can only see the world as the world you grew up in. We don"t live in the real world, but in a constructed world.
