It is almost impossible to discuss operant conditioning and classical conditioning separately: three key components: stimulus, response, and reinforcer. They are usually a blend of primary and secondary reinforcers (eg. smiling, the word good: we have a sensitivity to the behaviour of conspecifics, it can be negative, but it would be odd to call it a reinforcer. I can"t get not satisfaction : a response will increase if it is followed by a satisfying outcome, but the only way we know whether the outcome is satisying is if the response increases. Leri"s son: children do not like going to the hair dresser, given a reward for cutting hair riding the horse in the mall. In this case it is a reward, not a reinforcement: a reinforcer increases the frequency of behaviour, every time the boy sees the horse he doesn"t immediately want to get his hair cut.
