Milton"s paradise lost is considered the pinnacle of epics. Epic features: the hero is a figure of great national or cosmic importance, setting of the poem is ample in scale, and maybe worldwide or even larger. For example, odysseus wanders over the mediterranean basin then descends into the underworld: actions involve superhuman deeds in battle. Such as achilles" feats in the trojan war: in these great actions, the gods and other supernatural beings take an interest or active part. The olympian gods in homer: an epic poem is a ceremonial performance and is narrated in a distanced from ordinary speech and proportioned to the grandeur and formality of the heroic subject matter.
