Principalities there - secular + ecclesiastical (priests etc. ) Development of ideas - can even challenge roman church. ): lutheranism/lutheran church: peasantry revolted against landlords, inspired by luther (they expected luther to back them up but he didn"t - he said they were disturbing the secular order and said they should be duly punished) He needed the support of the establishment, power (princely rule)
