At site of injury, cystic cavity forms where there is a loss of spinal neurons, axons, and other glial support cells. Cavity is surrounded by a thin layer of spared axons. Marrow stromal cells & activated macrophages from bone/blood. Oecs surround olfactory axons as they extend from . Oecs and schwann cells (scs) are strikingly similar cells.
