Document Summary
How europe moved from dictatorships to democracies. How the international power they had has been lost. Both world wars are because of conflicts from the east of europe. Two texts for the course both available at haven"s. First essay is so we can practice using primary sources: the ideas of an article or newspaper, document essay, our choice, more or less a summery. Second essay will have two options: two historians arguing, comparison essay, 5 pages. A research essay approximately 10 pages in length. This class is heavily based on lectures. Office hours tuesday 9am 10am, wednesday 4pm-5pm. Two sections to exams: short answers, essay questions. What is history: story of the past. Interpretation of past events: facts about the past, the foundation of modern life, a lesson, collection of primary and secondary accounts, changes in the past which impact the present, study of knowledge of the past.
