With acute stress the picture is murky, not all about immunosuppression. Delayed type hypersensitivity increases: cell mediated local immune responses, might be what you need if you have a wound incurred from a fight. Increase in peripheral t cells, nk cells, and macrophages. Found that kids being given vaccine that were stressed before hand, had more antibodies to the vaccine produced. So in essence, acute stress can help improve local immune response. Dhabhar - trade off between systemic and peripheral immunity. Lack of resources also part of the reason, stress very energetically expensive: conflict between lipid transport (molecule needed to ferry lipid around) and immune function (needs the same molecule, only so much of it to go around) Lipid transport in orthoptera apolpiii, under normal conditions, is usually in free, uncombined form: there"s a lipid carrier molecule (hdlp), picks up lipid from fat body, and shuttles it to muscle. Lipid needs carrier molecule because it"s not water soluble.
