Background and context
Proteins are the abundant macromolecules found in living organisms. The proteins are the polymers of amino acids. The amino acids are combined by a covalent bond or peptide bond to form proteins. Proteins are called polypeptides when many amino acids are bonded to form the long chain. The structure, properties, and function of proteins are determined by the amino acids. When two amino acids are formed a peptide bond, they lose one water molecule. This is a dehydration reaction.
