Background and context

DNA and RNA are two nucleic acids. They are responsible for carrying genetic information from generation to generation. DNA controls all the cellular activities by the on and off mechanism of gene regulation. So that necessary proteins are formed and help in the growth and maintenance of the body.

DNA and RNA are polynucleotides. They are mainly composed of three components such as nitrogenous base, pentose sugar, and a phosphate group. The nitrogenous bases are again two kinds such as purines and pyrimidines. Adenine and guanine are purines, cytosine and thymine are pyrimidines. In the DNA the purines pair with pyrimidines as they are complementary to each other.
