Embryo sac is the female gametophyte or megaspore of the seed bearing plants. It is formed by the meiotic division of the megaspore mother cell. It consists of the thin-walled sac within the nucellus in the ovule. The mature embryo sac contains total 7 cells: 2 synergid cells (on either side of an egg cell at micropyle end), 3 antipodal cells (at chalazal end), 1 egg cell and 1 central cell (with two polar nuclei).
