Background and context

Cells, as they are living, can also communicate with each other either via direct contact, also known as the intercellular junctions. There are some differences in the ways that plant and animal cells do this type of transfer or communication. Plasmodesmata are junctions between the plant cells, whereas, in the case of animal cell contact or transfer, there are tight junctions, gap junctions, and desmosomes.
