Background and context
The ferns are flower-less and seedless vascular plants that contain large segmented fronds while reproductive structure (sori) develops on the ventral surface of the fronds. The life cycle of ferns shows alternation of generations, in which both haploid gametophytic and diploid sporophytic generation is fairly dominant.
