Background and context
The blood mixes with the interstitial fluid in an open circulatory system. Organisms that have an open circulatory system, their blood mixes with other body fluids. The blood of animals with an open circulatory system is called hemolymph. The open circulatory system pumps blood into the hemocoel and circulates back to the circulatory system between the blood cells.
