Background and context

Allosteric regulation is a technique for controlling an enzyme's ability to bind to an effector molecule in a region other than the active site. The effectors' binding sites are referred to as the allosteric site. At these sites, protein dynamics undergo a conformational shift, resulting in an increase in protein activity. This type of activity is referred to as an allosteric activator. On the other side, an allosteric inhibitor is defined as a decrease in protein activity.
