Background and context

Asexual reproduction is a method by which plants can propagate themselves without the mixing of male and female gametes. Hence, the plants are capable of producing a progeny on their own and the daughter plant thus produced is a genetically identical copy of the parent plant. This differs from another method of reproduction that is sexual reproduction in which there is a need for the male and female gametes to fuse together for the plants to produce a progeny.
