Background and context
The cytoskeleton consists of three types of protein fibers: microfilaments, microtubules, and intermediate filaments. Microfilaments are mostly actin fibers and microtubules are mostly myosin fibers. Microtubules are small hollow fibers that form structures of flagella, cilia, and centrioles.
Disease-causing organisms are called pathogens. A macrophage is a group of white blood cells that detects and kills pathogens through the process of phagocytosis. Phagocytosis is a process of eliminating pathogens, undigested and foreign substances from a cell.
