Background and context
Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins, are proteins produced by plasma cells after B lymphocytes have been separated. They promote the development of humoral immunity. The two identical heavy chains and the two identical light chains make up the four polypeptide chains that make up an antibody molecule.
