Background and context

The term Mitosis evolve from the greek word mitos which referred to the thread or fiber. The process leads to the equal distribution of the chromosomes in the daughter nuclei. Hence named as equational division. It is also termed Somatic cell division as the process involves the somatic cells. It mainly consists of two phases karyokinesis (prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase) and cytokinesis.
