The Rh blood type incompatibility between the mother and the fetus causes newborn hemolytic illness. Erythroblastosis fetalis is another name for it. The antigen "Rh" or "Rhesus factor" is found on the surface of red blood cells. A person is classified as Rh positive or Rh negative based on the presence or absence of this gene.
