Background and context

Plankton in the ocean needs light from the sun to grow. Light from the sun varies from the surface to a certain depth. The deeper we go, the availability of light decreases. Photosynthesis in the ocean varies from upper layers to lower depth. The absorption of light varies exponentially with depth. It is found that about 200m to 650m there’s not enough light for photosynthesis to take place.
