Background and context
A tetrad is a group of two homologous chromosomes that join together during meiosis to conduct crossing over. The DNA is duplicated and condensed into the chromosomes during the interphase stage of meiosis. Each chromosome is made up of two identical sister chromatids, and they are called homologous when paired with other chromosomes made up of identical sister chromatids.
